Helping Others

NHEHS girls are interested in the world around them.  They are perceptive, energetic and sincere in their awareness and concern for those less fortunate than themselves.  When they see an injustice or an imbalance in society they not only ask ‘why is it like that?’ they also want to get involved in helping to change it.  They are altruistic in a very wide sense of the word that covers everything from giving goods to charity shops to buying Fairtrade goods, recycling, campaigning and taking part in charity events.

The school has a long tradition of giving girls the opportunity to express this altruism.  Younger girls in the Junior School choose and support particular charities, put together boxes of presents for charity at Christmas and organise entertainments for local elderly people.  In the Senior School each week a different form chooses a charity and raises funds for it.

The girls are inventive and imaginative in developing fundraising techniques for their chosen charities.  They put on activities which may involve the whole school and often secure the enthusiastic and good-tempered involvement of staff.  These activities are very much a part of day-to-day life at Notting Hill and our girls have a great deal of fun successfully raising money while at the same time focusing on something beyond their own immediate and personal concerns.
